Ingredients

1 cup basmati rice

1 1/2 cups water

1 teaspoon cumin seed

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. Place the rice in a bowl and rinse it 2–3 times: fill the bowl with water, gently rub the rice, then pour out the water. Repeat until the water runs mostly clear.

  2. Add all the rice ingredients to a pot and stir. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low. Cover with a lid and cook for 12–15 minutes, or until the water has evaporated.
